When it comes to looking cool and chic, you cannot do much better than a stylish pair of sunglasses on a warm sunny day. It’s an effortless way to look good, especially when you have to rush out of the house and have no time to put on eye makeup. It also gives much-needed protection for your eyes.
However, there are times when you should remove your sunglasses and show the correct sunglasses etiquette. Most likely, you may not be aware of this.
Follow the guidelines below so you will always display the proper social etiquette when wearing your shades at any time of the year.
They Are Not For The Night
If you’re wearing your shades, as much as you may want to, you should not wear these at night. When you wear sunglasses at night, even ones not heavily tinted, they reduce your vision significantly and increase the likelihood of an accident. When you wear them at night, it will also look like you are trying to hide something.
Take Them Off For Introductions
When you are meeting someone for the first time outdoors, if you are wearing a pair of Humps Optics wayfarer sunglasses or any other brand which is stylish and comfortable, it is polite to take them off and make eye contact with the person that you are meeting. Eye contact is an essential courtesy and failing to do so will create a bad first impression. It is also a non-verbal form of communication that can help make someone comfortable in their surroundings.
Take Them Off Indoors
It is also best if you also take your sunglasses off when you go inside, and even though there may be bright lights inside the building, it does not warrant keeping your shades on while indoors. There is no reason to be wearing sunglasses indoors at all unless you have an eye condition, and people who wear them anyway can often look foolish, rather than cool, to the people around them.
Not For Business
Unless you are conducting your business on a large yacht and enjoying the sunny weather, when you are working in a business capacity, you must remove your sunglasses. As with meeting people for the first time, eye contact is essential for business and helps build up a level of mutual trust. If a salesperson cannot look you directly in the eye when trying to sell something to you, would you trust them enough to buy from them? Whatever your business, when you are working or going to a meeting, remove the shades and maintain a professional image. Save the glasses for the drive back to the office.
When It Is Okay To Break The Rules
There is one occasion when it is okay to break any of the above rules, and this is when your doctor tells you to wear glasses because of an existing eye condition. Other than that, the rules apply to everyone – even sports stars, movie stars, music stars, royalty, or any other type of celebrity.
If you do not want to look like a social buffoon, make sure you learn where and when you can wear your sunglasses and look cool, rather than sticking out from the crowd and getting looks from everyone for all the wrong reasons.
