Simple Tips to Make a Cinema at Home

There’s something special about watching a movie at a cinema. However, it might be more convenient and comfortable at home, especially now, when lockdowns due to the coronavirus pandemic are enforced throughout many countries worldwide. It’s simple enough: you need to find a suitable space, get a large TV with a surround sound system, provide comfy seats, and install dimmable lights.

Depending on your budget, you can create a decent home cinema or a more luxurious, high-end one. If you like this idea, take a look at how to create the ideal home theater system.

Find suitable space

In order to achieve a full cinematic experience in the comfort of your own home, you should find a suitable space and dedicate it solely to watching movies. Otherwise, if you share your home cinema space with some other space, the feeling is simply not going to be the same. Other members of your family, pets, noise and different smells can have deteriorating effects on the whole experience of watching a movie. Nowadays, screening-related activities are far more reaching than before, including Netflix, Bluray movies, and video gaming. So, when thinking about the perfect room, consider one that doesn’t have too much natural light which you can’t control, that is somewhat sound-proof or simply away from the noise and long enough.

Get a large TV

After dedicating a room solely to a unique movie experience, you should consider the next essential thing: a sizeable TV. It should be carefully considered as you’re not going to change it very often. A smart flatscreen with great resolution or a projector would be the thing to go for. The market is full of different choices and ranges in distinct prices. For the best experience, you should consider mounting your TV on the wall – it somehow gives the best view. However, if you have a large room at hand and you want to go for a screen larger than 100 inches, then it is definitely much better to opt for a projector.

Consider comfy seating and find a visual sweet spot

Directly connected to the size of the TV is the type of seating, its distance, and the right angle that provides us with that visual sweet spot. As far as the type of seating is concerned, there are many types to choose from. You can go for typical cinema seats, a large comfy sofa, ottoman bean bags, or perhaps armchairs with leg rests. Whatever is comfortable for you and fits into your home cinema is the way to go. As for the appropriate distance, engineers and scientists have tried to calculate the optimal distance for viewers for the best experience. They came up with the following: in order to calculate the distance, you should take the display’s diagonal size and multiply it by 1.5 to 2.5 and you get the distance for your seating area.

Upgrade the sound

Even though most modern TVs are able to display a fairly decent sound, upgrading the sound system can enhance it even more. For a small room cinema, you could go with a soundbar, which is practical as it combines multiple speakers in a single, low-profile horizontal box. Furthermore, adding an audio upgrade in the form of a subwoofer is something else. Ideally, they are placed in corners, on the floor. And if you want to achieve hearing different sounds and dialogues as if they are coming from different directions (left, right, and center), you should consider separating the speakers and placing them in the bookshelf perhaps. Of course, the best audio setup is definitely a full surround sound.

Install dimmable lights

Lights play an important role in creating an atmosphere. First things first, you can include different kinds of lamps, floor, wall, and tripod lamps, preferably with a dimmer. Overhead lights are the next thing to go for. There are some light sets available that you can control by your smartphone or by Alexa and they can even change hues for setting a certain vibe. On the other hand, track lighting will set a more theatrical vibe.

Following these few steps, you can just pick a movie, make some popcorn and relax in the comfort of your own home while at the same time experiencing a full cinematic atmosphere.
