Tips to Save Big: Black Friday Shopping at Macy’s

For those of you who can’t wait until Black Friday to shop, Macy’s Black Friday sale usually begins around 5pm on Thanksgiving Day. It runs approximately until 2 am and then resumes around 6 am on Black Friday. I know what you’re thinking, “Why close at all?” Hey, they need a few hours to restock and roll out the hot doorbuster deals for the diehard early bird Black Friday shoppers!

I’m not saying forsake family time, but heading out on Thanksgiving Day is a great way to walk off some of that turkey and pie. Plus the deals are hard to pass up, especially at department stores like Macy’s. There is truly something for everyone on your holiday gift-giving list. If you’re still not sure, visit their website and view the “Gift Ideas” tab. It will suggest the most popular gifts that are currently trending. You can even choose them by category such as “Gifts under $25, $50, or $100”! These suggestions always help me when I have that one person who seems to already have everything.

I’ll be honest, on Black Friday, especially at Macy’s, I’m looking for jewelry, beauty items, tech gifts, and stocking stuffers. I have two girls and one boy and these are the items I go to first. Plus, my nieces and nephews are the same age as my children so shopping for them is just as easy. I can usually find great gifts for the kids quickly and then head over to housewares for both of our parents and my sister. As for the men in the family, I’ll check out the watches, wallets, gloves, and sunglasses. Like I said, there truly is something for everyone at Macy’s.

Tips for Surviving Black Friday

  • Go through all of the ads and circle your must-haves and would-like items. You’ll want to be prepared.
  • Did you sign up for the email list? There may be additional savings and discounts in your inbox.
  • Take a friend or two. It’s safer and more fun with a small group.
  • Have snacks, water, and caffeine in the car. You’ll need it, you’re going to get a workout!
  • Don’t forget to score early deals like Macy’s Thanksgiving Day deals.
  • Shop early or shop late. You’ll never fail to find early bird deals, but sometimes there are late shopper deals also.

In addition, be sure to download the Macy’s App to create shopping lists from the ad you’ve circled. Being prepared is key. I’m sure you already know how serious the largest shopping day of the year is!  According to qz.com, last year American shoppers spent 5 billion dollars in 24 hours Black Friday Shopping. I knew it was a lot but didn’t realize it was quite that much! If you factor in Thanksgiving shopping along with Black Friday that number increases to 7.9 billion. So, put away some spending money each week, set a budget and don’t forget to look for online coupon codes to get the most savings on the biggest Black Friday deals. You’ll be so glad you did!
