The 5 Definitive Fashion Trends of Spring/Summer 2019

Although the inclement weather lots of us are currently experiencing may not agree, spring is well and truly here and the warmer days will (hopefully!) be on their way soon.  With a new season, comes a whole load of new fashion trends, and we have some fantastic looks on the way this season and well into the summer. While you may currently be wearing your turtle necks and 50 denier tights, here’s a look at what’s hitting the shops in preparation for the warmer weather to come.

Tie-Dye

No-one is more surprised about the recurrence of tie-dye – the 60s print that (some may say thankfully) went away for over 50 years; however, it’s most definitely back in 2019 and has been seen on the catwalks of R13, Prabal Gurung, and Stella McCartney.  Admittedly, the tie-dye fashions we’ve seen on these catwalks have been a lot chicer than the tie-dye of the 60s – oversized t-shirts are definitely not coming back, but beach maxi dresses and bold two-piece looks in the style are definitely in this season.

Fancy Flats

While models for David Koma and Ashish were decked out in tall high heels, many of this season’s catwalk collections featured fancy flats that look a whole lot easier to walk in – and boy are we grateful!  The Gucci sneakers for women this season are bold and bright, just as you would expect from this leading Italian fashion house, while Temperley London had some gorgeous gladiator style sandals that will be perfect for long afternoons in the park and days at the beach.

Fringe

Autumn/Winter 2018 saw the cowboy trend take over the catwalks, so it’s only to be expected that part of that trend will carry on into 2019.  And it has, in the form of fringing. Cushnie, Tom Ford, and Coach all sent models down the catwalks wearing a variety of different fringe designs, and everything from handbags to skirts and jackets have been kitted out with this feature.  Who knows, maybe the celebrities will opt for fringe-style haircuts to take the trend to the next level!

Neon

After endless seasons of pastel, one of the biggest trends for spring/summer 2019 is neon.  This bright trend features pinks, yellows, oranges, and greens and is sure to be popular with those who like making loud, outlandish fashion statements.  The main neon looks we saw on the catwalk for this season came from Ashish, House of Holland, Roksanda, and Jasper Conran, although plenty of designers also dipped their feet into the trend.

Sequins

Finally, we have sequins.  Have they ever not been on trend?  Well, this spring and summer they’re set to be included on almost everything.  From jumpsuits to dresses, bags, and shoes, sequins will be everywhere and making every single one of our looks just that extra little bit sparkly.  For an idea of what to expect, check out the spring/summer 2019 collections from Roberta Einer, House of Holland, and Halpern.
