Getting It Off the Lawn: 4 Things to Do with an Old Car

No one wants to have an old car sitting in the driveway or on the lawn. Sometimes, however, it can be hard to get rid of an older vehicle. You can’t just toss it in a trashcan, not to mention that many cities have laws against junk cars. The following are four things you can do with your old car.

Those who have a car that still works or has a number of working parts should consider donating the car. Talk to local charities or even religious organizations to see if they are interested in picking up the car. You may be able to write off the donation during the tax season, and the organization should be able to make some money off of it.

Educate Others

Search online to find local mechanics schools. Call these schools to see if they are interested in accepting your car. These schools usually need cars to work on so that the students get hands-on experience. The institution may not pick it up, but towing the car one last time should be worth it, especially because you will not have to worry about ruining the curb appeal of your property.

Selling to Junk Yard

A car that is completely worthless or has no working parts might not be the greatest candidate for donation. This is also not a good option for those who will have to pay a lot to fix the car and plan to just buy another one. Fortunately, you are not stuck with the unwanted car because you can still sell it to a junk yard like U Pull & Pay or someone similar in your area. What you should remember is that these businesses have competitors. This means you may be able to get a better deal if you call a few locations or at least read some reviews before settling on one.

Give it to a Junk Artist

People might not know that some artists collect junk and re-purpose it to create interesting works of art. If you live in eclectic neighborhoods full of artists, you should be able to find a few that are willing to take the car off your hands. You might see your car some day at a junk art show.

Hopefully, these tips made it easier to find a way to get rid of your car. All of these options benefit you or others one way or another, so it should be a simple choice.
