A Mile a Minute: Planning the Road Trip of A Lifetime

When it comes to planning a vacation, most people will immediately start considering flights to destinations with sun, sea, and sand. But there are so many more travel choices available that are often overlooked. A long-distance road trip features on most people’s bucket list, so why don’t more people take the leap and actually go on one? A major issue is the unfamiliarity of this type of vacation. Most people will have been on a package holiday where someone else takes control of the planning for you. You let a travel agent know where you want to go and they sort everything out on your behalf. A road trip means taking on a bit more responsibility yourself. But it’s so worth all of the time and effort involved. Here are a few tips and tricks to help you on your way to undertaking the adventure of a lifetime!

Destination

The first step on this journey is deciding where you want to go. There are famous routes out there, for example, America’s route 66. But these aren’t the only options. There are plenty of alternative journeys that you can undertake. Take Canada: this land’s rugged and vast terrain offers up some of the most exciting and beautiful routes that you could imagine. Check out the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia with its stunning views of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Alternatively, consider the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, home to awe inspiring glacier walks and great opportunities for stargazing. Less frequented routes can be more rewarding, allowing you to experience landscapes and sights that few others have had the opportunity to come across.

Travel Buddies

This is going to be the experience of a lifetime. So you want to share it with your nearest and dearest. Choose one or two of your closest friends or perhaps a sibling. You will know these individuals well and will already be well aware of their habits. Chances are that you’ll all be more tolerant of one another than you would be with casual acquaintances, new partners or co-workers. This is essential, as you are going to be in each other’s company twenty-four seven during the trip.

A Vehicle

Use the largest vehicle available to you for your trip. When you’re spending so much time on the road, you want to be as comfortable as possible. Try to pack lightly to avoid overloading the car. You should also consider investing in a trailer with a trailer brake controller. This will give you extra space for your belongings and any souvenirs that you’re likely to pick up along the way. You’ll really appreciate the extra leg room once you’ve set off on your journey and the brake controller will ensure that you have maximum control over your trailer and luggage. Perfect!

By this point, you’ll be raring and ready to go. Remember to take a camera or camcorder to capture memories of what will be one of the most unique, exciting and breathtaking journeys that you will ever experience.
