Crying is the only way that a baby can communicate. They want to communicate their needs with us, but it’s anxious to not have those skills yet. It can be frustrating for parents to hear their baby crying. Fortunately, if you know why your baby is crying, then you will know what you can do to stop it.
Hunger
Babies often cry because they are hunger. The younger your baby is, the more likely they are to cry due to hunger. Babies have small stomachs, so they cannot go a long time without a feeding. You may have to feed your baby more often.
Gas
If your baby cries after a feeding, then this may be due to gas. Your baby swallows air when they feed, which is why it is common for them to have gas. They also swallow air when they cry. You can release the trapped wind by rubbing or patting your baby’s back.
Colic
Colic can cause a healthy baby to cry excessively. This condition causes a baby to have severe abdominal pain due to an obstruction in the intestines or gas. In many cases, colic is caused by a food intolerance or allergy. It may also be caused by acid reflux.
If your baby has colic, then it is important to take them to the doctor. The doctor can rule out anything serious. You can soothe a colicky baby by giving them a tummy massage and taking them for a walk.
Too Hot or Too Cold
The ideal temperature for a baby’s room is between 68 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Babies typically need to wear one more layer of clothing than adults in order to be comfortable. However, you do not want to overdress your baby because this can cause overheating. Consider getting a good HVAC system or smart thermostat to help maintain a consistent temperature throughout the house.
Baby Doesn’t Feel Well
Babies who are teething or have a fever may cry in a tone that is different from their usual cry. They may cry in a more high-pitched tone. They may also have a weaker cry. Additionally, they may cry non-stop. If you are unable to stop your baby from crying, then it is a good idea for you to take them to the doctor.
