It’s so hard to look the way we want to look in a world which demands certain standards of beauty from women. There have been improvements over recent years, but we’re still a long way from a society in which people are free to look and feel the way they desire without enduring comments about the way other people would want us to look. The important thing is that you shouldn’t cave into these requests. You should have an appearance which works for you. That’s the most important thing. You should look the way you want to look. Wear makeup or don’t wear it; wear a certain style of clothes or don’t.

You might already have the mindset that you should be doing more to make your appearance work for you rather than other people, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you have any idea where to begin. Your body.

The great thing about bodies is that they come in all shapes and sizes. That means there is no ideal body type. Skinniness, curviness, or somewhere in the middle; none of these are objectively better than the others. The only important thing is that you feel comfortable with your own body type and that you look after your body on a basic level. If you’re eating well and keeping active then you’re doing more than most people bother to do.

You don’t need to hit the gym for ten hours a day, and you don’t need to starve yourself. Just try to eat in moderation; too much of anything is bad for you. Find a good balance between healthy carbohydrates, proteins, nutrients, and occasional treats (don’t deny yourself the odd chocolate bar). If you’re not much of a sports or workout enthusiast then maybe just go out for pleasant strolls to 
keep your body active. Set a goal of a few thousand steps a day and then work your way up to 10,000; that’s a good marker.

Teeth are a huge factor in many people’s appearances. Perhaps you’ve never given it much thought, and that’s a good mentality to have, though the appearance of your teeth can say a lot about your actual standard of dental hygiene and health care. You should be brushing and flossing twice a day to avoid plaque buildup and gum problems, but this also has the nice bonus effect of preventing yellowing of the teeth. Everybody has their influences, and all clothes are made by somebody; you can never be one-hundred percent original.

You can mix and match clothes, first of all, but creating customized jewelry is also a really fun way to add your own personal stamp on your outfits. You could also stitch badges and other quirky, retro things to jackets you might have to create your own personal look. Only you know your style at the end of the day, but you shouldn’t be afraid to let it show through.

Your sleeping routine.

Everybody talks about beauty sleep, and the importance of getting enough rest each night is likely not news to you. We’ve all seen those bags under our eyes after a sleepless night, so it’s also not news to you that sleeping badly isn’t good for your appearance either. People can tell when you’re not getting enough hours of rest because they’ll tell you that you “look tired”. It’s noticeable. Still, the remedy seems simple. Just get 8 to 10 hours of sleep every night, right?


Well, sleeping for the right amount of time is the first step to improving the situation, but it’s not the only thing you should be thinking about if you want to improve your sleeping situation on the whole. The quality of your rest also depends on the quality of your bed. A bad mattress leads to an uncomfortable sleep, so, even if you manage to squeeze 8 hours in, you won’t feel like you did because it wasn’t a very good quality of sleep. A bad mattress won’t just affect your rest and your level of energy but also your body; it can lead to a sore back, aches, pains, and other problems.


There’s really a never-ending array of reasons as to why you should be sleeping properly. Don’t neglect them because it’s important to your health as well as your appearance.
