Games Kids Can Play Outside in Spring

The birds are chirping; the sky is blue; why are they sitting on the sofa glued to devices. Help get your kids off the sofa and motivated.

Spring is one of the best times of the year to get children active outdoors. The temperature is perfect for games kids can play outside and all the back yard fun you can possibly imagine.

Remember the games you used to play? 3-legged race, potato sack race, how about horseshoes? Frisbee anyone? If you only have one child, of course, some of these games may be more difficult, but you can include their friends in on the fun, make it a play date in the back yard or if you don’t have a back yard, the nearest park, an even bigger back yard for even more kids.

Grab those rags, pair the kids off, set up a start point and an endpoint, see who can get to the finish line first. It can be quite fun not only for the children playing but for you as well to see if you can get to the finish line with one of the children too. The 3-legged race is great exercise and can help you work a lot of muscles you didn’t remember having. But, be careful not to fall on top of each other, you might end up laughing too hard to get up and finish the race.

Frisbee is great for someone on one time with your kiddo or even the neighbor’s kiddo. I know you can’t throw a Frisbee, but hey, there is no time like the present to learn. It is another great inexpensive game to play; you can even create a maze for it. For example, get some empty water bottles or something, set them in a funky path, see who can stay within the path, and still get a good throw to their opponent. Or try it blindfolded, take that stinky sock off of your foot. Yep, you read that right, it’s all about fun, isn’t it?

Running races are another bit of fun, see who can run the fastest in a short area of space, then increase the length, or how about going for a jog around the park or backyard, see who can last longer, you or your child, or if you have more than one competing see if the younger one can outrace the older one.

Bring back a childhood memory. How about a rousing game of hiding and Seek. But, you play along too. See if the kids can find you, just remember you have to be “IT” at least once, you can’t be sneaky all the time.

You can’t imagine how much fun it can be to get out in the spring with the kids and play. It’s the perfect weather to have fun, not too hot, not too cold, just about right.

Make sure you take some safety precautions, put on that sunblock, make sure you have plenty of water with you, but most of all, have fun.

So get those kids and yourself off that ol’ sofa and have a great time. You never know; if you are looking to drop a few pounds, you might see them melt away.
