As the weather warms up, the thought of school being out will quickly become a reality. When that happens, you want to be sure you have ideas for plenty of activities to do with your kids so you can all enjoy the beautiful weather outside. Fortunately, your options are nearly limitless and you don’t even need special supplies for most of these possibilities.
Swing Set
If you have a swing set in your backyard, it can provide hours of fun for kids of all ages. Swinging is a classic outdoor activity that can be enjoyed solo or with friends. If you don’t have a swing set, consider investing in one or building your own. Add some swing set accessories and provide endless entertainment for your kids during the summer months.
Water Balloon Toss
If you need to beat the heat and you don’t have a swimming pool, try cooling off with a fun game of water balloon toss. Water balloons are very inexpensive and can provide hours of fun if you get enough kids together. Then, when the game is over, you can make another game of picking up all the balloon pieces and throwing them away. You can either do whoever gets the most pieces wins, or assign each child a different color and let them know that the first person who gets all the pieces of their color will win.
Corn Hole
Part of the balance of a good summer activity is finding something that is fun and gets your kids active while not being too over-exerting for those days that are just too hot. Corn hole meets both of these criteria, making it a perfect summertime activity. If you don’t have your own set of corn hole boards, you can make your own using a couple of cardboard boxes. While they might not be as slick as the traditional wooden ones, they will be just as much fun for your kids.
Hide ‘N Seek
Hide ‘n Seek is certainly a fun game to play inside where there are lots of potential hiding places. Outside, it can be just as fun, though, as you have a larger area to run once your hiding place has been discovered. Select a specific tree or fence post as “base,” and your kids can challenge each other to try to reach that point before the person who’s “it” catches them.
Backyard Explorer
You don’t have to go to a zoo or nature center to find fascinating creatures, you can look in your own backyard! Challenge your children, without going outside your backyard fence, to find as many different kinds of animals as possible. You can even provide small bug catchers so your children can carefully put them inside and study them up close. It will be a great way to wear off some energy and give a whole new appreciation to all that goes on in your simple backyard. Make sure the backyard is ready after the long winter by reaching out to a professional, like Diamond Fence (Aust) Pty Ltd.
Pure Enjoyment
For most kids, just being able to be outside, especially after being cooped up all winter, is a treat in and of itself. As summer wears on, though, you might begin to hear those two dreary words, “I’m bored.” To avoid lazy kids and a crazy house, these activities will help everyone get out and enjoy the beautiful summer weather and enjoy spending time together, as well.
