5 Night-Time Tips for Improving Your Oral Health

Your day should begin and end both with oral care. A lot can happen to the mouth when you sleep. While the body is at rest at night, it does not mean bacteria too will rest – they will keep growing on the teeth which is how plaque formation happens. And you should know plaque is the major cause of tartar, which is responsible for cavities, gingivitis and more. That’s why oral care is equally important at night and if you ignored it, there would be irreparable damage to your oral health. So, take care of your nigh-time oral care and prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Here are some of tips to follow before you go to bed every night –

  1. Brush before sleeping

Brushing before hitting the bed is one of most important night-time tips for improving your oral health. It will protect you against plaque accumulation thereby the risks of tooth decay and gum disease would come down drastically. This habit is particularly more essential for those who are prone to cavities and gum disease. Such persons need to brush immediately after dinner to stop food debris and bacteria to store up in the oral cavity.

  1. Rinse with mouthwash

Mouthwash is much more than fresh breath. Rising the mouth with them can provide strength to teeth and also keep away plaque and cavities risks forever. The ingredients present in mouthwash also help keep the gums safe from gingivitis. It’s however important to choose a right product and avoid buying the one fit only for masking mouth odour and promising fresh breath. Don’t buy them as their utility won’t be much for oral health.

  1. Floss between the teeth

Brushing is surely not enough for preventing plaque. You also need to floss every night before going to bed. This will help remove food particles and prevent plaque accumulation in the oral cavity. The soft bristles of your toothbrush won’t reach between the teeth and crevices so food debris and bacteria might still be trapped there after brushing. The floss you do will clean between the teeth and remove anything and everything from between the teeth.

  1. Avoid chips, sugary items at night

Sugar is bad for your teeth. And when you consume sugary items at night, it can cause greater damage than it does at day. Snacking on chips, drinking beverages like tea, coffee at night are equally harmful. Before going to bed, you must avoid anything sugary or acidic in nature else there will always be risk to your teeth as well as gums. Any food item that sticks to teeth and gums can cause more harm at night so it’s better to avoid them.

  1. Protect your teeth from grinding

Grinding at night can increase the chances of tooth sensitivity and may lead to worn out enamel. Grinding in teeth may also cause torn cheek tissue. So, if you do grind at night, consult best dentist Fresh Pond Rd and get a mouthguard to avoid oral problems in future.
