Summer might be over but that doesn’t mean you have to wait for another year for your next vacation. By October, it is already mid-autumn for most places in the northern hemisphere. Asia might not be the ideal holiday destination since it is still the typhoon season. However, there are still so many other sunny destinations you’ll want to visit this fall.
Luckily, some places remain sunny and balmy at this time of the year. Below are some excellent places to enjoy if you are still craving some fun in the sun right after the summer!
Botswana
October is considered the beginning of the transitional season and this often comes with high temperatures of about 34°C on average. The landlocked Southern African country is most famous for its inland delta called the Okavango Delta. Luckily, you will be blessed with some excellent animal-sighting opportunities if you plan your visit to Botswana around this time. Be sure to keep an eye out for the magnificent lilac-breasted rollers.
Queensland
Let us not forget about the Land Down Under, of course. In the Southern Hemisphere, Queensland will be in spring. You can expect sunny days and mild evenings as it is still the dry season. We can’t think of a better time to visit the Sunshine State of Australia! There will also be minimal jellyfish and crocodile presence so there is no need to worry about your safety in the water. However, this time often sees plenty of tourists so make sure to book your flights and accommodation ahead of time. If you’re looking for an active holiday your kids will love, then this is it!
Marrakech
Sunny does not always have to mean it’s scorching hot. Spend the tenth month of the year in the western Moroccan city of Marrakech during the shoulder season for a brilliant trip. While the Red City is not completely averse to rain at this time, the weather should be generally balmy and pleasant. Moreover, room rates will often be more affordable, making it the perfect time to visit the Koutoubia Mosque and Bahia Palace.
Corfu
There is no denying the fact that Kerkyra, more popularly known as Corfu, is beautiful year-round. However, October is one of the best times to visit since you get to make the most out of its laidback atmosphere. The weather will mostly be sunny, though the nights will be chilly so come prepared.
Because it is out of season, accommodation will be much cheaper. You will be able to rent a holiday home in Corfu for a fraction of the price you would have paid during the summer months. The end of the month also marks the conclusion of the beach season in the Greek island so make the most out of the heat while you still can!
Rome
October hits the sweet spot in the Italian capital of Rome. There will be fewer tourists compared to the summer season and the weather is more bearable but still sunny. Yes, this means you will be able to take better pictures of the majestic Trevi Fountain! You can dine al fresco in restaurants and bask in the beautiful sunlight in the comfort of your hotel balcony. You can also catch interesting events and festivals like the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi and the Rome Film Festival if you are in town. Find out more about things to do in Rome here.
