Many Sunday Schools as well as other church studies use parables in their lessons. What is a Parable? Parables are a fantastic tool for education since they are concise, comprehendible tales that can be employed in countless ways.

Jesus often used parables to emphasize His teachings and bring them alive for His disciples and followers in the Bible. The parables of old were a masterful way to communicate timeless, moralistic truths in an allegorical format. This storytelling gave listeners the ability to comprehend and emotionally connect with the messages being shared. Parables can be used by all ages. However, it is especially intriguing to tell them with children and to see what they get from the story.

There are many different parable lessons in the Bible. Below are just a few.

  • Parable of the Prodigal Son: God’s love for us is absolute and unconditional and does not rely on our ability to remain faithful.
  • Parable of the Mustard Seed: Although the Kingdom of God began with Jesus and his small group of disciples, its reach eventually extended around the globe. Countless people now follow in His footsteps, carrying on His message to an ever-increasing audience.
  • Parable of the Great Pearl: Highlighting the tremendous worth of the Kingdom of Heaven.
  • Parable of the Good Shepherd: Everyone, even those who have backslidden or are sinners by nature, can access the Kingdom of God.

Jesus often used parables, which are everyday tales with no basis in reality, to demonstrate his teachings about God and His Kingdom. These stories can be tricky for us to comprehend; many of them have multiple layers of meaning that require further exploration. Through His parables, Jesus unveiled deep insights about God’s kingdom and at the same time provoked those He spoke to by clashing with their prevailing beliefs.
