Is your child struggling in math? Perhaps they need a little extra practice or you may be seeking an entirely new curriculum for your homeschool this year. Whatever the need, CTCMath has a solution.
CTCMath offers 1,400+ tutorials that last around 4-9 minutes and presents the concept of each math lesson step-by-step using synchronized audio and animation which harnesses both audio and visual learning styles simultaneously. CTCMath lessons can be studied at home or at school and even on mobile devices. Their mission is to provide stimulating materials that are interesting and encourage the student, once started, to continue studying.
Can I be honest here and say that math has been my nemesis for years? I am an English major and math has never been easy for me. Wouldn’t you know it? I have passed down my shortcoming to my three children! Let’s just say, we are all relieved to find CTCMath.
How Does CTC Math work?
Parents can set up an account for students with their own log-in credentials. Once the student logs in, they may set a theme by color scheme and personalize it a bit. I think this added touch makes it more interesting. Kids love to make things their own.
If you’re unsure of where to begin, choose the grade they are currently in or going into since it’s still summer break for most. There is a diagnostic test option and you may choose how in depth you want to go by choosing the diagnostic test right for your student. There are three options.
Once you determine which grade level to begin, students will watch a video tutorial (lesson). After the tutorial, you may download the actual lesson problems in pdf format for later or print for extra practice (optional). To practice their skills from the tutorial, your child will click on the questions and begin to answer them. (There is no need to print anything unless you feel the need to.)
CTCMath keeps score and provides you with the number correct out of the total number of questions. You will immediately have your grade after completing the practice questions. I set ours up as 80% is a passing grade. You can set yours up according to your own preference under settings.
If you are teaching multiple children or working from home while homeschooling, you are going to love the History feature. It allows parents to see a timeline of what their child did from log in to log out for the day. It records data and times so you know exactly what the student did and how long it took.
Wait…there’s more! Each week you will receive an e-mailed report that provides:
- Weekly Activity Log for each student
- A Summary of the performance of each student in your account.
