Organize Your Outdoor Living Space: 7 Things from Your Backyard to Throw Away This Weekend

If after cleaning up and mowing the lawn your backyard still doesn’t look pulled together, it’s time for decluttering. This means that you will have to take a careful look around and organize your outdoor living space by removing unwanted things. Usually, these are items that you simply got used to having there but now their purpose is done and it’s time to say goodbye.

However, if you have trouble deciding, here are suggestions on things from your backyard to throw away this weekend.

Throw away broken statues and ornaments

Once beatifying elements in your backyard, and now litter-makers, broken statues, and ornaments should definitely be among the first things to throw away. While some cracked statues may have their charm, others will only ruin the landscaping of your outdoor space. Depending on the material, some items can even go into recycle bin or cleaned and donated if in decent shape. But in the end, you will have room to add some new decorations and redefine the overall look of your backyard.

Sent old wood to recycling

No matter if you demolished an old patio or simply have pieces of wood lying around your yard, think about recycling it. Old wood gets wet and rots away if not properly stored or used immediately, so it’s basically junk littering your backyard right about now. Recycled wood is a very important resource to create furniture and building materials today, so you would be helping the environment along the way. Just make sure to wear gloves to avoid splinters and see if your local recycling facility provides pick-ups or you will have to deliver the wood by yourself.

Turn those half-dead plants into the compost

If your garden project failed, consider tossing the half-dead plants and turning them into compost. The same applies to leaves, plant trimmings and other garden waste you have lying around your backyard. You can add tea bags, coffee grounds, nutshells, eggshells, vegetable and fruit scraps to the compost and use it to fertilize your new seedlings. This is eco-friendly gardening which will improve the soil and keep your backyard well organized and tidy.

Get rid of old garden tools

Broken garden tools are not worth to fix and you will be better off throwing them away and getting new ones. Furthermore, these tools tend to get rust on them and could present a safety hazard if you have them lying around your backyard. So, instead of keeping the old ones, buy new gardening equipment and build a small outdoor shed for its storage.

Don’t cry for old furniture

Throwing away furniture is hard and you always think that it still has some use in it. So, you need to inspect it carefully and decide whether it’s wise to invest in repairs or simply buy a new one. Sometimes, you can even sell your old furniture and donate it to charity, if it’s not too damaged and worn down. Moreover, new pieces will bring life back into your backyard and give it a nice makeover after a while.

Haul that old hot tub away

Hot tubs are great to have in the backyard, but they also have an expiration date. You may have postponed this for a while believing that you will fix that broken tub someday or be able to sell it. But, in the end, it’s best to hire professionals like A-line Movers and remove it from your backyard. Hot tubs are bulky and besides the bin, you may also have to use a crane to exhume it. However, in the end, you will have extra space in your backyard or you can install a new and better tub.

Replace ceramic pots and containers

Ceramic pots and containers easily go unnoticed because they hold plants, but they crack and deteriorate over time. Even those you left aside to repair could turn out to only create clutter and cause you to trip over them. Therefore, you should replace them with new ones to reenergize your plants and add some shine to your backyard at the same time.

Finally

It is a tough call what things from your backyard to throw away, but one that will help you redefine your outdoor living space. Start by removing something small, like old pots and once you see the change it brought, you will feel inspired to continue with decluttering. The clean and organized backyard will give you room for landscaping and creating a comfortable living space for you and your family.
