Inexpensive Ways to Freshen Up Your Bedroom

You might think you spend a lot of your day in the kitchen or your living room, but did you realize that it is your bedroom where you spend the most time? As much as one-third of your life is spent sleeping. Add an hour before and an hour when you wake up, and that’s a lot of time you spend in the one room that gets the least attention when it comes to decorating. That’s no surprise because it is one room that can be difficult to furnish. Take a look around your bedroom right now. Does it look a little basic? Would you like to give it an upgrade but don’t have the budget to be too reckless? Here are some suggestions that won’t break the bank.

First Step – Clear Out the Junk

This might be the one and only step you need to take if your bedroom has become cluttered. It’s surprising how much it’s possible to gather in a short space of time, and without a good clear out every now and then, the piles of junk just get bigger and bigger. Take that chair in the corner where you always dump your clothes, did you realize it looked so pretty? Organize your clothes and find somewhere they can all be put away. All those outfits that have never been worn. Take them to a local charity shop and let someone else wear them.

Think About a Color Scheme

This is the room in which you start and end your day. Think bright and light colors. Add some subtle, relaxing patterns to enliven the space. If you don’t want to add patterns to the walls, why not change your furnishings? Save money on the rest of the decoration, and you’ll be able to splash out and treat yourself to some designer bedding.

Move Your Bed

This simple idea might actually surprise you. It could even contribute to a better night’s sleep. Why is it that we feel the need to have our bed leaning up against a wall? Believe it or not, there is a right and wrong place for your bed. At least, according to the principles of Feng Shui that is. Your bed should not be in line with any doors, have a good supporting wall behind it, have grounding and balanced energy on both sides and have no sharp edges pointing at you while you sleep.

Other ideas that will help with your makeover include:

  • Washing your sheets regularly
  • Use baking soda on your furniture to remove musty smells
  • Adding tapestries, wall hangings or art on your walls
  • Cleaning out unnecessary furniture
  • Keeping carpets clean
  • Using diffusers and essential oils
  • Refurbishing your headboard cover
  • Adding patterned wallpaper or color accents to the bedroom door
  • Adding a mountain of pillows
  • Changing the lighting
  • Bringing in some plants

If you think your bedroom deserves a makeover, feel free to try some of these ideas. They will also help to keep your bedroom looking clean and amazing. Even the smallest of changes can make a difference, and it’s easier than you think.
