If you are thinking about giving a gift to someone you love, you want your gift to be something that they will like. Depending on the occasion, you may even want that gift to be memorable. The last thing that you want your loved one to do is walk away feeling disappointed or even insulted. Here are some ideas on how you can choose the best gift for your loved one.
Before you go out and purchase something, take some time to think about what your loved one would really enjoy. If your loved one does not appreciate material things that much, you may decide to give a gift that has to do with an experience that you can enjoy together. You could plan an adventure. Or you could purchase something that they could use later on, like a membership to a state park. Other ideas would be to purchase a class that could be taken, tickets to a show or a sporting event, or any other experience that your loved one would enjoy.
If you decide to purchase something, take some time to think about what your loved one is really interested in. Does the person love to travel? Do they love animals? Do they love coffee, wine, or other beverages or food items? Are they interested in other languages? If you can choose a gift that relates to something that they already love, not only will your loved one appreciate the actual gift, but they will appreciate the fact that you know them so well.
Another idea is to purchase a gift that will fill a need. For example, if your loved one has recently been hired for a new job, could you purchase a gift that would be practical, like Alpina watches? If your loved one has recently purchased a new home, you could buy decorative pieces that would be practical to use in the new home. In these cases, you are giving a gift that is useful and that also is associated with something special in the life of your loved one.
Take the time to think about how your loved one will react to the gift. You do not want to give the impression that you were just walking through a store and took something off the shelf. The last thing that you want to do is offend your loved one. For example, consider the idea of a gym membership. For some people, this would fall under the categories of being a practical gift and being an experience. However, some individuals may feel offended because they think you are suggesting that they are overweight and need to do something about it.
my boyfriend and i don’t really exchange gifts. If we want something, we just buy it ourselves – then we never have to worry LOL! But these are great tips to make sure you get something nice.
This is a great post. You really have to put some thought into your gift giving if you want to hit the mark. They say it’s the thought that counts, and I’ve always believed that means the thought you put into a gift, not just that you bought any old thing.

I am pretty pleased with my gift giving skills. I think the key is listening to the person throughout the year and making a mental note when they say they want something.

This read has been really very interesting for me since I always want to add that something more to my gift parcel.

I always try to give the best for my husband. It is important to listen to your partner though to know he or she actually wants your best offer.
Oh wow! I will definitely keep this in mind. I am always looking for the best gift and this idea is perfect. Great post!
I can’t lie, I’m not the best gift buyer for people. I think a lot of it has to do with my indecisiveness and the fact that I tend to buy what I think I’d like, but it’s not always what they might like (a lot of times I don’t really know what they like). Gift cards are so much easier, but then you have those who hate gift cards and would rather have gifts. It’s an annoying process all around.
Every time i want to give my husband a gift, I really think about what he is into at the moment and go from there. Im not that great at gift giving but with him I am always able to find something i knows he’ll like.
