How to Avoid Cold Bath When Living With a Big Family

It can be frustrating to run out of hot water. This problem is more likely to occur if you have a large family. The good news is that there are several things that can be done to avoid this.

Shorten Shower and Bath Time

There are many sacrifices that you have to make if you have a large family. One of those sacrifices may include shortening your shower or bath time. You should also encourage the rest of your family to do the same. A water heater is only designed to heat a certain amount of water at a time. You can also stagger when certain family members shower so that your water heater has time to make more hot water after each person.

Check Your Water Heater

It is normal to run out of hot water. However, if you are always running out of hot water, then your water heater may be to blame. Your water heater may not be as efficient as it should be. There may also be a leak that needs to be fixed. That is why it is important for you to get water heater repair as soon as possible if you suspect that something is wrong.

If your water heater is old, then you may need to get it replaced. Water heaters are not designed to last for more than eight to 10 years. New water heaters are also a lot more energy-efficient and can keep your water warm longer.

Adjust the Thermostat on Your Water Heater

There may not be anything wrong with your water heater. However, it may not be on the correct temperature. You may need to reset the thermostat. If that does not work, then you may want to increase the temperature on the thermostat. The ideal water heater temperature is 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not set the temperature above 140 because that can increase the risk of scalding.

Make Sure That the Pipes Are Insulated

You may be running out of hot water because your pipes are not insulated properly. Insulating your pipes will help keep the water hot longer. You will also need to make sure that the water heater itself is properly insulated.

You do not have to accept the fact that you have to take cold baths if you have a large family. You can encourage everyone to shorten their shower and bath time. You also need to make sure that your water heater is working properly and adjust the thermostat if necessary. Additionally, you should make sure that the pipes are insulated.
