More often than you’d believe we listen to that amazing song Wear Sunscreen by Baz Luhrmann. But no matter how much we repeat the words, “Do not read beauty magazines they will only make you feel ugly,” we just can’t help flicking through the pages of yet another beauty bible or scrolling endlessly through the pages of yet another beauty blog. The reason we can’t control our urge is simple: we are absolutely desperate to find out what secrets these goddesses posing as mere-models are using to look as flawless as they do.
As it turns out, the internet has the answers for absolutely everything. It is astonishing and, let’s be honest, kind of freaky too. What we found most mind-blowing of all, though, was the fact our favorite celebrities are using weird hacks and everyday products to look as stunning as they do. And there we were thinking they looked perfect simply because they had the money to shoot cucumber juices and tea tree oils into their faces through magical laser beam treatments some hidden lab in the Hollywood Hills had managed to develop. Silly us.
But it isn’t just the weird things hacks and everyday products that made us smile like that weird Cheshire Cat thing from Alice In Wonderland, it was also the sudden realization that a lot of these tricks suit lazy people too. This is pretty important for us because, well, we love our sleep (which is good because we kept reading about how good sleep is for our skin too). We also don’t want to do anything to exertive because, once again, we’re kind of lazy (or as we prefer to call it, innovative with our time). As it turns out, so are some of our biggest celebrity girl-crushes.
So, without delaying you any longer, we have come up with a list of secret tips, tricks, and bits of advice all gorgeous celebrities really don’t care if you find out about. Enjoy.
Perfectly Wavy Hair
Trying to get our hair to look amazing is one of those never ending battles we have to put up with, especially when we are trying to put a bit of a wave and a bend into our locks. We’re there trying to time our shower perfectly, dry our hair in just the right way and then use a combination of curlers, straighteners, and blow dryers in order to lock that look down. Turns out that this all pointless, though, or maybe not pointless but certainly an ineffective use of our time. You see, what Rosie Huntington-Whiteley does is way easier, and her hair always looks a million dollars. All she does is take a shower or a bath in the evening, then blow dry her hair, wrap it up in a neat little bun and then go to bed. Voila. When she wakes up in the morning, there is that perfect little curl. It’s true, the simplest things in life are the most genius.
Give Your Skin Coffee
This may seem like a totally and utterly bonkers concept to try and get your head around, but it is exactly what Halle Berry does (for any of you that have been living under a rock for the past twenty years, Halle Berry is that drop dead gorgeous actress that has played both the sultry Catwoman and stolen the show as a Bond Girl so, yeah, she has the credentials of a goddess). Anyway, the secret to her absolutely perfect skin is coffee. She doesn’t drink it, though, she adds it to her shower-gel-body-wash-thingy instead. The reason she does this is so the caffeine in it gets absorbed by her skin, which then does all it can in the battle against cellulite. How does it do that? Well, according to the internet, the added coffee exfoliates, gives the blood flow a little boost and smooths the skin. Dreamy.
Soft And Silky Skin
This is the thing that tends to set celebrities apart from the rest of us. All celebrities just seem to have incredibly silky looking skin, from their face to their feet. All of them, Oprah, Julia Roberts, Liv Tyler – all of them – and all we can do is scan their Instagram feeds hoping to find a snap of them in their bathroom so that we can catch a glimpse of what product they are using to look so good all the time. Well, as it turns out, both Oprah and Julia Roberts use the same thing, which is vegetable oil. Of course, when it comes to rubbing it on their skin, they use a very specific hand and body lotion that uses loads of different sources of vegetable oil, about which you can learn more at www.cleanhappens.com/products/work-it-own-it-natural-lotion. When it comes to making their hands, nails, and cuticles look totally magical, however, they skip the middle-woman and just apply it straight to the area that needs a little love. As for Liv Tyler, well, she uses it on her lips. That’s her secret.
Lip Balm Not For Lips
There is not a person on this planet who doesn’t drop what they are doing the moment Beyonce opens her mouth to say something, especially when that something has anything to do with looking beautiful. While we have jokingly described the other celebrities in this list as goddesses, Beyonce actually is a goddess. She wasn’t birthed by Tina Knowles, she descended from the heavens and was handed to her, probably in a Moses basket lined with golden sheep’s wool. Anyway, we’ve digressed. The point we were making is that Beyonce recently spoke about her eyelashes (we know right!), and what she does is this: she uses lip balm to prime them before curling them. That’s how they hold their curl and look so damn shiny all the time. And there we were using lip balm on our lips, like absolute morons. How embarrassing. From this day on, all our lip solve shall be placed in the eye compartment of our imaginary beauty box.
Lipstick Isn’t for Lips
While we are on the subject of lips and being total novices about applying certain bits and pieces to the wrong area, totally drop dead gorgeous supermodel Joan Smalls says she uses lipstick on her cheeks. Sure, she probably uses it on her lips too, but she also uses it on her cheeks. Whatever lipstick she is using on her lips (which we’ve learned from our mild stalking tends to be either red or peach and usually from MAC) she also uses on her cheeks instead of having to decide on which blusher will go with it. Not only is this genius, but perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here too. After all, both Beyonce and Joan Smalls are breaking the rules and thinking outside the box, which is maybe what we should be doing as well.
Mayonnaise In Beauty
Mayonnaise is famously known for being one of the most delicious sandwich spreads ever invented, but it can also be used on your hair. Yup. You heard us right. Don’t worry, we know this one is a little weird, and if it was anyone else in the world that told us to do this we would probably think they had gone absolutely bonkers. But given it is Blake Lively that does this, and the fact she probably has the most luscious blond locks we have ever set our eyes on, we are ready to give this a shot. Don’t believe us then just read about it at http://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/beauty-hair/celebrity-hair-makeup/news/. What she does is put mayonnaise on the lower half of her hair before showering. Why? Apparently, mayonnaise is seriously good at protecting hair from soap, which is what tends to make the ends of our hair brittle and dry and just plain nasty. What makes this hack so awesome is that, once again, it is perfect for lazy girls like us. Mayonnaise here we come.
Ice, Ice Baby
On our journey across the internet in search of the treasure that is incredible beauty hacks, we stumbled across two simply stunning women talk about ice: Olivia Munn (the actress) and Jasmine Tookes (the Victoria’s Secret Angel). What Olivia does is use ice-cold water to mimic the effects of a primer by splashing it on her face after cleansing. Apparently, this is a great way to close your pores without having to faff around too much. Jasmine, on the other hand, is a huge fan of rubbing ice cubes into her face before going to bed because of the way it tightens the pores and leaves your face feeling nice and firm which, let’s be honest, is exactly the way we want our faces to feel.
So, there we have it. Celebrities (and that goddess Beyonce) don’t actually use laser treatment technology that fires the extracts of highly powerful fruit and vegetables into their body to achieve their truly mesmeric looks; they use simple beauty hacks just like we begged they would. We prayed and the universe answered, and look we have a result: by using mayonnaise, ice, coffee, and makeup in the wrong places we can look like a hybrid of Jasmine Tookes, Julia Roberts, Halle Berry, Blake Lively, and Beyonce. Our dreams have been answered.
