If you have ever driven through Los Angeles, or basically anywhere else in Southern California, you are well familiar with the traffic jams which occur regularly. When your simple 20 minute commute turns into a 3 hour ordeal it’s easy to lose temper and get frustrated.
It’s even worse if you are on your way to the airport because there’s a chance that you’ll miss your flight altogether. That’s when you should really consider hiring a car for airport transport, like https://sdairporttransport.com/. However, there are things you can do to make yourself feel a bit better while stuck in a non-moving traffic jam.
Switch off Your Engine
If you see that the jam is pretty bad and that you won’t be going anywhere any time soon, you may as well turn off your engine. Not only will you save fuel, which is always good, but you can also help save the environment, however small your contribution will be in the veritable river of cars.
You could potentially inspire other drivers around you to do the same thing, which can dramatically improve the quality of air around you. Once the traffic starts moving again, you can easily turn your engine back on.
Organize Your Glove Compartment
If you’re like most people, you use your glove compartment to store all sorts of things, from receipts to important paperwork to a spare pack of gum. That can make finding something important there a nearly impossible task. So, if you’re going nowhere, you may at least do something about it.
You most likely don’t need all of that receipts and other papers you just shove in there but take the effort of reading them before you get rid of them. Once you have made some kind of order in that compartment, you can try to sort out any other storage area in your car. In modern cars, there are a lot of them and most likely they are pretty disorganized.
Listen to an Audiobook
If you don’t really have the time to read, listening to audiobooks is a great way to enjoy the content. However, they do require your attention, so they are not ideal when you are working or trying to fall asleep. They are, however, ideal for a situation like this; you are sitting down, can’t go anywhere, and you really shouldn’t be using your phone.
If it’s something you are interested in professionally, it’s even better since you aren’t wasting the time you are spending in traffic. The good thing about audiobooks is that they don’t require you to actually look at them, so you can still keep your eyes on the road.
Play Your Music as Loud as You Want
I often find myself conflicted when it comes to music. I really like it loud, but I still don’t want to bother other people. So I take every chance I can to play my music loud and sing along to it. Your car is the perfect place for that, if you don’t care about the stares you will probably get from other people in other cars.
Go Through Your Schedule for the Day
If you have a busy day ahead of you, make sure to double check everything while you are idling on the highway. Check your itinerary and make sure that there are no overlaps or impossible-to-keep appointments you made a while ago and forgot about.
We often find ourselves double-booked or having back-to-back meetings in locations which are far away from each other. Try to adjust the schedule or cancel well ahead of time to avoid problems later in the day.
What you shouldn’t do in a car is talk on your phone or browse the internet because that requires you to look away from the road which can be dangerous. If you want to get some work done on your way somewhere, there are options for that as well. Hiring a car to take you to your meeting, for instance.
