Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Earbuds are the latest offering in the slue of wireless earbuds that have followed the release of Apple’s AirPods. While Apple may have cornered the market on earbuds in the beginning, these days it seems like every company around is making wireless earbuds. However, all earbuds aren’t created equal. What good are wireless earbuds if the sound is tinny or you experience terrible latency with video? If you’re going to lay out money for a set of wireless earbuds, they should offer excellent sound quality and no latency with audio or video. That’s where the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds shine. This new addition to Sennheiser’s flagship Momentum headphone line takes wireless earbud technology to new levels.
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless Breakdown
When I unboxed my Sennheiser earbuds, the first thing I noticed was how sharp they were. The earbud’s silver and black color scheme is clean and crisp, and the case – which doubles as a mobile charging dock – features a fabric-like, slate gray finish with black accents for a truly striking look. That being said, we all know looks aren’t everything so what else did these earbuds have to offer?
Pairing and Controls
I must admit, I was a bit nervous about the fact that these earbuds are completely touch controlled. That nervousness was compounded by the fact that the controls aren’t marked in any way on the earbuds. Reading the instructions for these earbuds took all of two minutes, and by the end of it, my trepidation was completely gone. It’s all about tapping with these earbuds.
Powering on and pairing is a simple process of pressing on the face of both earbuds and holding for five seconds. After that, the controls are all tap-based. Short and long taps do everything from pausing and skipping tracks to adjusting volume and taking calls. It’s all fairly straightforward, and the learning curve is incredibly shallow. It’s more like a learning bump, really.
However, for those of you out there who still don’t love the idea of fully manual controls, don’t fret. You can download a companion app for these Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds. With the app, you can connect your powered-on earbuds to your phone, use a very simple but effective equalizer, and even reset your earbuds to their original factory settings if needed. The combination of touch controls and companion app combine to make the user experience of these earbuds one that is incredibly simple and free of headache.
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds are top of the line, and it shows. Unlike many earbuds that have a tinny sound, these earbuds have a nice, round bass to them that adds the depth and body that we all love to hear in our music. It also provides excellent sound when viewing television and movies. I was thoroughly pleased with how well these earbuds translated the audio of some of my favorite movies right into my ear canal. They provided me a nice audio range with no latency, which is key when watching movies. Even while viewing Infinity War, I never had an issue with sound clarity, depth, lag, or stuttering.
Another feature worth noting on these earbuds is the Transparent Hearing option. With this option enabled, you can choose to hear what’s going on around you while listening to your audio. I found this especially convenient while driving because it allowed me to listen to my music without being cut off from what was happening around me while on the road.
I rarely use earbuds or headphones for calls because invariably, the sound is terrible. The mic doesn’t pick up well, and my conversations eventually descend into a lot of “What?” and “You sound so far away”. Because of this, I was expecting my earbuds to fail this test. After a series of test calls, I got feedback from my audio Guinea pigs and what I learned was a variation on this general theme: the calls were crisp and clear with no garbling or that “underwater” sound that usually comes with wireless earbuds.
I have to be honest, most earbuds don’t agree with my ears. They usually feel like they’re going to fall out or they don’t seat properly in my ear canal, which means my audio is constantly battling with outside sound and noise. These Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds took away all of that. The earbuds came with four different earbud attachments to fit almost any ear canal. Mine actually fit perfectly right out of the box, and the shape of the buds made for an easy insertion which completely – and comfortably – blocked out all external noise while delivering high-quality audio straight to my brain.
Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless earbuds can play continuous audio for 4 hours on a single charge, and the case also doubles as a portable charging station that provides 2 extra charges for up to 8 hours of additional usage.
