How to Improve Your Hallway Aesthetic

If you are like most homeowners, you may not know what to do to decorate your hallway. Though it is a relatively small section of your home, it can still be a formative part of your decor, especially when it is furnished right. Consider some of the following things you can do to improve your hallway aesthetic.

Paint it a Color Other Than White

Painting your hallway a color other than white can really make a difference to the overall feel of your home. Try something light and airy like pale blue or green, or go for a bolder look with a deep red or purple. Think about what rooms the hallway is connecting and what type of atmosphere you want to convey between those spaces of your home. Also consider if any natural light is coming through. This will affect paint colors and tone of the space.

Add Some Wallpaper

If you are not keen on painting, then why not try wallpapering instead? There are lots of great wallpaper designs available that would look wonderful in a hallway, from floral patterns to geometric prints. Accent walls can work especially well for hallways because of how much versatility you can get with layering and visual movement effects. Make sure to match your flooring when choosing a wallpaper. There are some wallpapers that are made for renters and come off easily. If you’re not sure how long you want that style, considering purchasing one of these.

Give Light

If your hallway is able to accommodate a window, consider installing one! Whether this is added to the entrance of your home, or the back of the hallway, natural light can make a big difference to your space. Call your local design experts, such as those at Cardinal Remodeling & Design, LLC, to help you get started on this project.

Hang Some Artwork

Hanging some artwork on the walls is a great way to add interest and personality to your hallway. Choose pieces that complement the overall style of your home, and do not be afraid to mix and match different frame styles and sizes. Because the hallway is often in the background, think of something that will act well as an accenting piece for both the hallway and the rest of your home.

Add Some Greenery

Adding some greenery to your hallway is a great way to bring the outside in and create a calming, soothing atmosphere. Try potting up some plants in pretty pots or hanging some trailing ivy from the ceiling. Choosing large plants to accent the entry to a hallway can be an interesting way to spruce up the decor.

Install Some Shelving

Installing some shelves is a great way to make use of empty wall space and create somewhere to store things like books, shoes or hats and gloves. Choose floating shelves for a minimalist look or go for something more traditional with enclosed shelving units. Make sure you choose shelving that is the appropriate size for your space. You don’t want it to protrude into someone’s walking space.

If you are still not sure where to begin, it can be a good idea to consult with a specialist. Working with a capable interior designer can allow you to review your options and choose the right furnishings for your hallway.
