How to Dress For Your Body Type: 5 Dressing Tips for Men

Guest post contributed by Claire Ashley

The fashion world loves to give out directions telling what is in and what is out, what is hideous and what is cool. Following this style will make you look like a super star and not following this latest trend will make you look like a total fashion disaster.

Most of the guys follow up these trends in the fear of being left behind but in doing so they fail to see if a particular outfit is according to their body shape or not. Is it looking good on them? Is it complimenting their body and their personality?

No matter how much you follow the fashion trends if something does not compliment your personality it is not for you. Choose your clothes according to your body type, doing so you will look not only look stylish but also attract positive visual attention.

Here are some dressing tips according to your body type. Follow these and you will never look sloppy or outdated.

1. For triangular body shape:

Having a more pronounced mid-section does not mean that you are unhealthy or overweight. The most important step is to understand your body shape and dress according to the proportions.
As your shoulders are narrow as compared to your mid-section you should add some structure up on top.

Use well-structured blazers and jackets to give your shoulders proper shape and wear darker colors as they have a slimming effect. For bottoms opt for straight leg trousers instead of skinny legs to create visual balance.

2. For inverted triangle shape:

In this shape your chest and shoulders are broader as compared to your waist, which is narrow. Most people gym regularly to get this shape. You can show off your incredible body by wearing slim fit suits. If you want to give a broader look to your waist use horizontal stripes.

Do not wear the collared T-shirts as they draw away the attention from the broadest part of your torso also avoid wearing skinny legs as it will draw more attention to the narrow part of your body.

3. For rectangular shape:

Having rectangular shape means that your shoulders are approximately the same width as your waist.

With this shape using horizontal stripes will add more width to your frame and layering can work wonders to give you an exquisite look. A button down shirt and a crew neck jumper will instantly add bulk to your frame! Avoid double breasted jackets and use scarfs around your neck to flesh out the upper torso.

4. For oval shaped men:

For this shape, dark and solid colors are always good. Wear trousers that are comfortably loose and never belt them tight.

Wear a well-fitted shirt, usually wide collared necks look good on oval shaped men. Use dark colored single breasted jackets as it gives your body a proper look making it a worthwhile addition to any outfit.

5. For trapezoid shape:

Most athletes have this body shape. Use well-fitted shirts to showcase your body and avoid baggy clothes at all cost.

Wearing vertical striped shirts will give you a taller look and wearing a jacket will give your stomach a narrower look and a broader look to your shoulders. Wear it with single button buttoned to add maximum effect.
