Everyday Foods That Can Cause Acne Breakouts

Acne is a normal skin problem that affects so many people. However, did you know that you may be eating everyday foods that may be contributing to acne breakouts? These foods are not just junk foods either, like chocolate and potato chips. Healthy foods like spinach and salsa may also lead to acne breakouts. Here are some popular everyday foods that may lead to acne breakouts.

Bacon – You knew bacon would be on this list, didn’t you? We love bacon with everything from eggs to sandwiches, but bacon is rather greasy, leading to acne breakouts.

Chocolate – Who doesn’t love chocolate? While we all love to indulge on this sweet treat every now and then, or maybe more often, chocolate contains several ingredients that are known for causing acne breakouts. These ingredients include caffeine, sugar, and dairy.

Peanuts – While peanuts make a great snack, they do contain an ingredient called androgen, which has been known to increase the production of sebum in the skin, resulting in acne breakouts.

Pizza – Pizza is well-known for causing acne breakouts because of the high content of fat and cheese in pizza. The fats and cheese that pizza is made with, may block the sebaceous glands on your skin, causing acne to flare up.

Popcorn – Who would have thought popcorn would be on a list of foods that cause acne breakouts? Popcorn has been known to aggravate acne breakouts because of the fact it contains a high amount of starch, dairy and trans-fat.

Salsa – What a great pairing: chips and salsa. However, salsa is an acidic food, due to the tomatoes and vinegar it contains. If eaten on a regular basis, or in large amounts, it may cause acne breakouts.

Spinach – Spinach is a food that is high in iron content, but it is also high in iodine content. Eating foods that are high in iodine on a regular basis can cause pimples and acne.
