Some people put considerable effort into decorating their homes. Furniture, walls, floors and curtains all carefully chosen. Most people also spend time cleaning to keep the house looking good and free from germs. But there is another sense that the state of your home can impact, good or bad. How a house smells does affect its comfort and appeal. To keep the scent of the air clean and pleasant there are many types of air fresheners. Here are five of the more common.
1. Freshen Your Entire Home
For those who can afford it, there are systems that can be installed that operate with your HVAC system. This is a whole house air freshener. It is generally set up in your basement. Using cold air diffusion, it adds the scent of your choice to the HVAC vents. The odor then permeates your entire home. It can also be used in offices or workspaces.
The system runs quietly and requires little maintenance. It has the advantage of running without any need for starting it or to make adjustments. This makes it easier to use than air fresheners that must be administered periodically. It’s also safer than candles which obviously present a fire risk and must be monitored.
2. Scented Candles
The scented candle has been around for a long time. You simply purchase a candle with a smell you like, then set and light it in a room. As it burns, the candle disperses the scent throughout the surrounding area. Candles are cost-effective but only reach a limited area. You also have to be careful about the risk of fire. A candle should not be left unattended.
3. Incense
Another traditional method of freshening air is incense. Associated with hippie culture, incense involves burning a stick or coil that releases a particular scent into the air. Incense has no active flame when it burns and will extinguish itself. It is, therefore, safer than candles. Some people find incense too strong and the smoke irritating.
4. Potpourri
Potpourri works similarly to incense without burning. It is a mix of herbs, spices, and flower petals. The strong scent of the mix permeates the air. As potpourri doesn’t burn it is safe and can also be enjoyed visually. It’s inexpensive and doesn’t contain potentially dangerous chemicals.
5. Fan Air Fresheners
Fan air fresheners are mechanical devices. Some are battery-powered, and others plug into an outlet. A scented cartridge is inserted into the freshener and a small fan sends the odor out into the room. There are larger ones that can freshener the air in an entire house. Many of them have cartridges that last a specific time, such as 30 days. There are others that can be set to turn on and off at the time you specify. The fans are low-maintenance and take up little space.
A clean home is a happy and healthy one. This includes the smell of the air. There are many ways to freshen the air in your home. Choose the one that works best for you and enjoy fresh, scented air throughout the house.
