Nothing is more frustrating than when your washer and dryer stop working properly. You’ve got a mountain of laundry to do, and the last thing you want is for your appliances to malfunction. Before you call for help, there are some potential reasons why they might not be working and how to troubleshoot the washer and dryer repair.
Electrical Problems
If your washer or dryer won’t turn on at all, then it’s likely that the problem is related to an electrical issue. First, check to make sure that the appliance is plugged in correctly. Also, make sure that the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped by flipping it off and then back on again. If these steps don’t solve the problem or if the circuit breaker trips again after resetting it, then it’s time to call a professional electrician.
Dryer Vent Clogged
If your dryer isn’t heating up or takes too long to dry clothes, then it could be due to a clogged vent hose. When air can’t flow out of the vent hose as easily, this limits how much air can flow into the dryer, which affects its performance. To clean out a clogged vent hose, start by unplugging the machine from its power source and disconnecting the vent tube from both ends (the back of the dryer and outside). Using a vacuum cleaner with an extended nozzle attachment, suck all of the lint out of both ends of the tube until they are completely clear. Once finished reattach both ends securely before plugging in your appliance again.
Washer Not Draining
A common issue with washing machines is when they don’t drain properly or at all during their cycle. The most likely cause here is a blockage in either the pump filter or the drain hose itself. To troubleshoot this issue start by cleaning out any debris from inside of the filter located near the bottom front panel of your washer machine (check your owner manual for the exact location). Then remove any kinks in your drain hose before putting everything back together again and running another cycle with hot water to see if that helps clear any residual blockages still present in either component.
Troubleshooting why your washer and dryer aren’t working doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive! By taking just a few minutes out of your day to inspect both appliances individually for common issues like electrical problems, blocked vents, or clogged filters you can save yourself from having to hire an expensive repairman down the line.
