“Self-care is never a selfish act—it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer to others.”– Parker Palmer
The world is constantly showering us with new problems and worries. A lack of time and overall hasty life pace aren’t helping either. To deal with such stress and pressure, every now and then, you need to dedicate some time to self-indulgence. The good news is that luxury can fit into everyone’s budget, from tight to unlimited. Here are some great suggestions and you choose the ones that match both your wallet and your preference.
The good-old Netflix and chill
Let’s start with the almost completely free, yet irresistibly satisfying way of pampering yourself. Depending on how much time you have, you can watch a classic movie (Casablanca, Gone with the Wind and Rebel without a Cause come to mind) or binge-watch the entire season of How I Met Your Mother, Orange Is the New Black or Taboo (whatever floats your boat). A bowl of popcorn is a must. Depending on your mood, you can invite your friends or go solo into this adventure.
Dedicate a day to your appearance
Every woman, regardless of her age and life choices, loves to spend a couple of hours beautifying herself. However, due to constant obligations, we often have to scatter our routines throughout the week: e.g. the nail polish day is Monday, hair washing happens on Tuesday, eyebrow plucking is on Wednesday… Take one entire day off, and try to squeeze in manicure, pedicure, facial, and other treatments. You can go full DIY with this or visit a salon.
A full-blown spa day
If there is something inherently associable with pampering that is definitely a spa day. If this is within your current price range, you can enjoy everything from hot stones massage and decadent facials to a sauna and hot tub. However, if this is a bit too much for you right now, you can always turn your bathroom into a spa, with a bubbly bath (and the addition of essential oils), candles, scented sticks and relaxing music – close enough.
Get your food & fashion dose
Anyone said “shopping”? Shopping is a great mood-booster, especially if you are buying some stylish clothes and you are accompanied by your best friends. You decide whether you want to hunt for bargains or go for high couture. After your bags are filled, you can try on some elegant piece and go out to eat in a super exclusive restaurant. You’ll feel like a queen.
Go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go
We know, this can be fairly expensive, but as we said in the beginning, everyone can find a pampering method within their budget. And that place you’ve always wanted to visit doesn’t have to be Paris. It can be Napa Valley wine tour or New York’s Central Perk, if you are a Friends’ fan or you can go to some festivals or concerts you’ve always wanted to visit. Just make sure one of your long-time wishes come true.
Spend time at an exotic location
If a mere weekend trip isn’t enough for you, and you have plenty of time at your disposal (e.g. you’re retired), then we have a better suggestion. Book a cruise that lasts a couple of months. Travel to some distant unknown country and spend some time there. You don’t have to go that far. In Australia, you can buy luxurious retirement homes that resemble world class resorts. This place is quiet, peaceful and surrounded by divine nature. If you have a deep enough pocket, there is not a single reason why you shouldn’t invest in such a marvelous future, where you’ll be pampered every day.
Each of these pampering methods brings unique joy, regardless of how much time and money you invest in it. You will still be able to replenish yourself with a new dose of energy and tackle your day-to-day problems much easier.
