Moving Moms: How to Relocate Your Family Without Creating Chaos

Contributed by Meghan Belnap

Moving can be a stressful, chaotic experience for anyone. When you are planning to relocate with children, the process can be even more daunting. After all, your children may feel the stress and inconvenience of the move, and this can negatively affect your home life for months.

If you are looking for some easy tips to streamline the process, consider how these steps can help you to reduce the chaos associated with relocating.

Do Some Spring Cleaning

If your home is like most, it is crammed with junk that you no longer have a need for and that you may not have used for several years or longer. There is no need to spend your time, energy or money packing and transporting these items. Before you start packing go through each room of the home one by one to thoroughly remove all unnecessary items.

Start Packing Early

After you have completed the spring cleaning step, you are ready to start packing up your home. There are many essential items that you should not pack up until the last day or two before you move, but this does not mean that you need to wait until the last minute to pack everything. For example, you can easily pack up your off-season clothes, non-essentials in the kitchen, books, décor and more several weeks before you move.

Pack the Kids’ Rooms Last

Your kids will feel more stressed when the items that they are familiar and comfortable with are not available or visible. Pack your children’s rooms last so that they can remain in familiar surroundings for as long as possible. You can also get the kids involved in the process, explaining that all of their items will be unpacked in their new room.

Use Moving Services

You understandably want the actual relocation process to be as smooth and easy as possible. Professional movers such as Integrity Moving can be hired to pack up any last-minute items and to disconnect appliances and electronics.

They also can typically relocate all of your items faster than you may be able to do on your own. When movers are scheduled to arrive, consider asking a friend to watch your kids and pets so that they are not underfoot when the movers are working.

Your moving experience can be stressful for the whole family. However, you can streamline the experience so that it is completed faster and easier. Consider how you can employ each of these tips to reduce the chaos associated with relocating.
