How to Choose the Perfect Flooring: Carpet vs Wood

There are thousands of different flooring options available on the market which can make it extremely overwhelming to choose the flooring that is right for you – especially if you can’t decide between hardwood and carpet.

We have found a detailed infographic that walks you step by step through the entire process of choosing your perfect flooring. It offers some top tips and considerations, as well as some killer statistics about the global flooring market.

But first, there are a few other things you need to think about…

What are some of the pros of carpet?

Carpet comes with a variety of benefits compared to other flooring options. For starters, it is much easier to install carpet than wood flooring because it’s a more flexible product. One of the other benefits of carpet is the fact that it is available in a variety of colors, patterns, and textures which means you have a variety of options to choose from.

What are some of the pros of wood?

Wood is a popular choice amongst many because it’s long lasting and easy to clean. Additionally, because of the neutral tones of wood, it can be paired with practically any color or decor style which makes it timeless. It’s also a low allergy surface making it great for people who struggle with allergies.

How big is your budget?

Before shopping for your perfect flooring, you should have a clear budget set out per square meter to prevent you from falling in love with flooring you can’t afford. When setting your budget, you should also research into the average cost of carpet and wood in your area so you know roughly how big your budget should be in order to buy the type you’d prefer.

On average, wood flooring can be purchased for between £35 ($39) and £70 ($79) whereas carpet can be purchased for between £7 ($8) and £25 ($28). Along with the cost of buying the flooring, you need to consider the cost of fitting the flooring too. Carpet is much easier to fit than wood and therefore costs significantly less.
