Home Remedies for Weak or Thin Nails

We all dream of having beautiful, healthy nails but it is sometimes difficult to achieve this when your nails are weak or thin. The good news is that you don’t have to spend hours at the nail salon to get the nails you desire. That’s because you can help your brittle nails with things you have right in your kitchen. Here are some amazing home remedies for weak or thin nails.

Eat foods that strengthen nails – There are certain foods out there that can help to strengthen your nails. Tomatoes, for example, are a great source of Biotin, which helps to promote healthy nails, skin, and hair. Also, foods packed with protein like fish, nuts, lean meats, eggs and legumes help you to grow strong and healthy nails.

Apply moisturizer to nails frequently – By applying moisturizer to your nails frequently, you are helping to keep the moisture in your nails. You should apply moisturizer to your nails after each handwashing, after you do the dishes, and after you get out of the pool.

Wear gloves for certain chores – When you are engaging in chores like gardening, cleaning or dishes, you should consider wearing gloves to protect your nails. Things like garden soil, cleaning products and dish detergents can be harsh on your nails, causing them to split, peel and dry out.

Avoid nail polish remover – I know this is a tough one, ladies, however, nail polish remover is well known for not only drying out your nails but also making them susceptible to breaking and chipping. This is especially true of nail polish remover that contains acetone and should only be used once a month if needed.

Soak nails in olive oil – To help weak or thin nails become stronger, soak them daily for 15 minutes in olive oil. This should be done daily for the first 30 days and then done twice a week thereafter. Olive oil will help to relieve nails that are dry and cracked.
