Home Remedies for Fleas

Out of all the nasty little critters in the world, fleas are probably at the top of most people’s lists. There are more than 2,000 various versions of fleas worldwide. They are tiny in size but they sure can cause a lot of chaos.

Great home remedies to get rid of fleas

Homemade Flea Bath – Dogs and cats alike can get fleas, so it is important to give them a flea bath as soon as you notice they have fleas. To make your own, combine 2 cups of water, ½ cup of pet-friendly shampoo, and ½ cup of fresh lemon juice. You can use this on a weekly basis to help get rid of fleas and keep them from coming back.

Homemade Flea Trap – Flea traps are attracted to light and they will also drown in water. So, use this to your advantage to make your own flea trap at home. In a shallow dish, combine hot or warm water and dish soap.  Place this on a counter or table, under a night light. The fleas will swarm towards the light, ending up in soapy water.

Homemade Salt Vacuum  – While vacuuming carpets, rugs, and upholstery to help to get rid of fleas, the goal is also to kill the fleas. To do this, sprinkle regular table salt onto these areas and let it sit for 6-7 days. The salt will adhere to the fleas and kill them, along with any eggs. After the 6-7 day period, vacuum up all the salt/dead fleas.

Homemade Flea Spray  – One thing that fleas hate the most is vinegar, so making a flea spray with vinegar is a great way to keep them at bay. In an empty spray bottle, fill half of it with warm water and the other half with apple cider vinegar. Spray the solution directly onto your dog or cat, making it unwelcome for fleas.
