7 Amazing Scuba Diving Sites for Thrill Seekers

Scuba diving is one of the most enjoyable underwater pastimes and can be seriously thrilling when you get to explore the best dive sites out there. There are thousands of renowned sites around the globe, so how do you narrow it down to a shortlist for your holiday? Here are seven amazing sites that everyone should try out.

  1. Blue Corner, Palau, Micronesia

Palau is full of top dive sites, and this is one of the best. There are lots of marine creatures to be found in abundance here, include sea turtles, reef sharks, rays, barracuda, and a lot of brightly-colored fish. There is also a dramatic landscape, with huge drops and lots of different coral species below you. It’s a really special dive for any level of experience.

  1. Fish Rock Cave

Just off the New South Wales coast, Fish Rock Cave is the only true ocean cave in Australia and is home to the grey nurse sharks which are rapidly becoming an endangered species in Australia. They are gentle giants who won’t bother you as they swim around their natural environment, a patch of warm and clear water. Humpback whales and their calves also migrate through here from April to November. You can save a lot of money by renting rooms in Australia rather than hotels, which makes the trip a lot more affordable.

  1. SS Yongala

The SS Yongala sank in 1911 and now this site, just off Townsville in Australia, is an artificial reef as well as a heritage site. You will find more variety and density of marine life here than some of the surrounding real reefs! There’s a strong current, but most divers can manage it, and it’s a real bucket list dive. There is added history now, too, after the alleged murder of a diver here in 2003 by her husband.

  1. Shicheng City, China

If you love the idea of finding Atlantis, Shicheng City will bring your fantasy to life. It was flooded in 1959 when the Chinese government created a man-made lake to provide hydropower. Most of it was built around the year 200AD and it is still well-preserved even under the freshwater lake, making it an absolutely fascinating place to explore.

  1. Great Blue Hole, Belize

If you are already an experienced diver, this is definitely one to try. There is an underwater sinkhole just off the coast of Belize which drops down more than 120 meters. Beginners aren’t able to try it out, but this is definitely one to put on your list for when you have the right certifications under your belt. It’s a unique experience and truly fascinating.

  1. Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are one of the best spots for family holidays because they offer a little bit of everything. After leaving the kids at a club in your resort which will entertain them all day, you can go diving and enjoy stunningly clear blue waters which offer 150-foot visibility. Turtles and fish swim around you to make the sight worth seeing.

  1. Holbox, Mexico

When it comes to a memorable dive, swimming alongside whale sharks in the Gulf of Mexico will definitely be up there. These giant creatures don’t harm humans so you are perfectly safe, and their sheer scale will absolutely take your breath away. It’s an unmissable experience.

Any and all of these scuba diving sites are perfect choices to make your next trip an unforgettable one. Choose the one that suits your budget, holiday style, or family – and you’ll be a winner without a doubt!
