5 Tips for Protecting Your Skin

Your skin is precious. Unfortunately, it’s subjected to many things that can damage it on a daily basis. From chemicals to pollution, our skin absorbs everything it comes into contact with. Fortunately, there are ways you can protect your skin from damages. Here are some tips for giving your skin a fighting chance at vitality.

Sun Cream

Protecting your skin from the sun is very important. Not only do you want to avoid burns, but too much exposure can lead to sun stroke, age spots, discoloration, benign growths and skin cancer. Use sun lotion whenever you plan on being out in the sun and try to stay indoors when the sun reaches its highest point. That’s usually between midday and early afternoon. You’ll avoid being in the sun when it’s at its hottest and it’s the perfect time for a quick nap, or a siesta as the Spanish call it.

Hydrate

We all know that drinking plenty of water every day is part and parcel of staying healthy. However, our skin needs it more than anything else. The moisture in our skin can deplete drastically when we don’t drink enough and you may suffer from dry skin or acne as a result. Instead of drinking more water, some people tend to turn to moisturizers. It’s a temporary fix and only results in your skin absorbing more chemicals, instead of getting the water it needs.

Go Natural

There is so much we use on our skin in any given day, that we don’t really take notice of. From soaps to make-up and cleaning products, our skin takes on a lot. You may want to consider taking a more natural route when it comes to the products you use on a daily basis. For example, why not do some research into the best natural hair products? Shampoo and conditioner isn’t just something that’s absorbed by your hair and scalp, as it often falls onto the rest of your body while you’re showering.

Don’t Share

It’s common knowledge that germs and bacteria can spread from one person to another, but that doesn’t tend to stop us sharing when it comes to family and friends. If you want to avoid skin problems, it’s best to keep your things to yourself. For example, cold sores can be easily spread if you share lip balms. It’s also important not to share drinks and wash your hands before and after touching your skin.

Avoid Congestion

Being stuck in a traffic jam in a large city won’t do you or your skin any good. The fumes coming from each of the cars surrounding you will be absorbed in your body. If you live in a city, you may not notice the effects, but if you’re travelling from a rural location where emissions are less, you may feel it in the air. If you can, try and avoid being outside in cities during peak times. If you can avoid it, your skin will have an easier time of repairing when it needs to.
