4 Things to Consider When Revamping the Master Bedroom

You likely spend at least eight hours each night in your home’s master bedroom, so it is important to have a place that is inviting and beautiful. To create a master bedroom that is more attractive and comfortable, here are four things that you should consider.

Wall Paint and Decor

The first things that you notice in a master bedroom are the colors of the walls and the wall decor. Experts suggest selecting a relaxing and pale color such as light blue, green or pink rather than having intense colors. Select a type of paint that is easy to wash so that you can keep your master bedroom clean and free of odors. You can augment the walls with wallpaper edging and artwork. To promote restful sleep, select artwork such as paintings or photographs that help you to relax and feel calmer at night.

Carpeting, Rugs or Floor Tile

If you have allergies, then you may prefer having easy to wash floor tile and throw rugs in your master bedroom so that you can eliminate household dust and pet hair. However, most homeowners want to have carpeting in a master bedroom to create a quieter space and also to have a warmer floor during the winter. Carpeting is a long-term investment, so you should select a neutral color that makes it easier for you to redecorate a bedroom occasionally. Good neutral colors for carpets include tan, beige or brown that will look okay with the other colors in your bedroom.

Choosing a Fantastic Bed for a Master Bedroom

Selecting a fantastic bed for your master bedroom is vital, and you don’t need to spend a fortune on this item. Look for affordable mattresses and box springs that are available in an assortment of sizes and styles to fit your needs. Find a store that specializes in making and selling mattresses along with accessories rather than shopping at a furniture store that has only a few types of bedding. Take swatches of your carpet and wall colors with you to match bedding colors and styles to the space. You can have the mattresses, bed frames or box springs delivered to your home, and it is easy to assemble your new bed in only a few minutes.

Draperies or Window Blinds

You may ignore your master bedroom’s window coverings, but it is a good idea to have room-darkening window blinds or drapes for this space. This can make it easier to block the light from outside your home, helping you to sleep better. Thick draperies or high-quality window blinds can also reduce the amount of noise that you can hear from outside your home. If you select draperies that are washable, then you can keep the items cleaner to prevent allergic reactions.

Make a Sketch of the Master Bedroom

Before you buy furniture and other items for a master bedroom, use paper and a pen to make a sketch of the space. Consider the floor plan carefully so that you have access to the closets and other areas of the master bedroom. This will help you best plan how to use the space, which will inform your use of colors and styles.
