Avoiding an Identity Crisis

Finding yourself isn’t really that difficult when you know where to look

Did you ever play the “who am I” game as a child?  I did and loved it!  My kids loved it just as much.  You describe the animal and your friends have to guess who you are.  This is a fun game, but somehow I got sucked into playing this game with my life.  Constantly trying to find my identity in what I was doing.  That’s a very dangerous game and I almost lost.

I am married. I am not a wife.

I sing. I am not a singer.

I teach. I am not a teacher.

I have children. I am not a mama.

I write. I am not a writer.

I have a job. I am not an employee.

I am …

What am I?  Who am I?

This question has haunted me for decades.

Dear Mama – You. Are. Enough. #motivation

We have all been there.  We’ve all been right where you are.  Feelings of insecurities are compounded by feelings of inadequacy and the cherry on top is hopelessness.

Mama – Life. Is. Hard.

There’s sleepless nights – why didn’t anyone tell me that just because they’re not physically waking me up doesn’t mean I’m going to sleep thru the night?!?  I think I actually slept better when I was getting up every 2 hours for feedings or scary dreams.

No More Mama Drama

Drama… Drama… Drama… with a little Mama Drama cherry on top!  That’s what my yesterday consisted of.  None of this drama belonged to this mama, mind you, but somehow I was privy to drama from many outside sources.  I.  Am.  Tired.  I went to bed last night with a heavy heart and the sun rose with the weight still entangling my soul.

I have a 13 year old – so need I say more?  There’s always a certain amount of drama, but yesterday was different…  Two of my friends are at odds at each other (and one at me for Heaven only knows why…), another school mom was messaging me about something she deemed inappropriate at school, and then I walked into church last night … (looking for a safe haven and restoring of my spirit) the lady who sits in front of me also happens to work with me, I hadn’t even put my caboose on the pew before she had turned around…”You will never believe the drama at work today…”.

Compassion International Child Survival Program

Being a mother is one of the best things that has ever happened to me.  Funny, before my oldest daughter was born my sister said she couldn’t imagine ME – being a mother.  I know she doesn’t think that now. 😉  But back then, I was not the typical mother type.  I read every parenting magazine I could get my hands on.  I watched every baby show on TLC.  But those things didn’t prepare me for motherhood.  Once my baby was born, God gave me a natural instinct to care for my child. What a beautiful picture of his love for us!

The Night I Fell In Love With a 13 Year Old

Have you ever known someone for so long that you forgot who they were?

I recently went on a date with this pretty cute 13 year old.  Yeah I’m 38 but I couldn’t help myself.  I’ve known this guy since he was born.  I celebrated his birth with his family and I’ve watched him grow into this spectacular young man in what seems to be a blink of an eye.  I’ve watched him take his first steps, witnessed his first bicycle ride, and yes – I was there when he scored his first goal.  I’ve watched this boy morph into a man right before my eyes, yet I had lost sight of who he really was.  He’s my son.
